EDSIGCON/CONISAR Conferences Chair

As the 2018 Conference Chair, it is my honor to welcome you to the EDSIG Conference on Information Systems and Computing Education (EDSIGCON) and the Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) in Norfolk, Virginia. This marks the fourth year EDSIG has organized its joint conferences with ISCAP (Information Systems & Computing Academic Professionals, Inc.). Since the early 1980's, AITP-EDSIG members have helped to advance education and applied research in Information Systems and Computing by helping to support conferences and journals. Our two conferences act as pathways to the Information Systems Education Journal (ISEDJ) and Journal of Information Systems Applied Research (JISAR) as well as to the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE).

This year we are fortunate to have support from corporate and industry sponsors: Mendix, IBM, McGraw-Hill, MyEducator, Pega Systems, Prospect Press, Paloalto Networks, Information Builders, and Cengage. Additionally, we have received special support from the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State, the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business at West Texas A&M University, the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, the Computer Science Department at Siena College, and the School of Business at Quinnipiac University. Without sponsorships and additional support, running a quality conference would not be possible. I encourage participants to visit our sponsors during the session breaks to learn about the ways their products and services can improve our teaching.

The 2018 conference would not be possible without the help of a talented group of volunteers: Jeff Babb, Wendy Ceccucci, Amy Connolly, Jeff Cummings, Scott Hunsinger, Lionel Mew, Rachida Parks, James Pomykalski, Anthony Serapiglia, Jason Sharp, Les Waguespack and Paul Witman. We owe special gratitude to Li-Jen Lester and Biswadip Ghosh who helped coordinate the review process of over 100 submitted works. Finally, this conference would not be possible without the dedication of our meeting planner and journal publisher, Tom Janicki.

The goal of EDSIGCON and CONISAR is to bring together educators and industry professionals to share ideas, innovations and strategies. Through a peer-review process, we have helped each other improve the works that will be shared, which in turn will further improve our teaching and research. In closing, I wish to express deep gratitude to those who have developed, reviewed and revised the work that will be presented. It is this effort which makes our conferences so valuable to educators and academic professionals.
