Jack Russell

Dr. Jack Russell has served as the Northwestern State University (NSU) CIS Coordinator and is the Morrison Endowed Professor of Computer Information Systems at NSU. Dr. Russell holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas and an M.S. in Computer Science from Florida Tech. He holds the CCP (Certified Computer Professional) from the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP). Prior to coming to NSU Dr. Russell was a Regents Professor with the Texas A&M University System and was named Piper Professor of Texas in 1997 by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. This award is granted to only ten professors in the State of Texas annually. Russell is the recipient of the AITP Education Foundation and EDSIG Distinguished Service Award. Russell has published works in various business and computer-related journals and proceedings; and is the author of a leading text titled Business Programming Logic and Design, Second Edition.

Dr. Russell has coordinated and taught the systems analysis and design and advanced systems development classes at his university where his students have compiled 5 straight national titles (2001-2005) in the systems analysis competition at the National Collegiate Conference.

Dr. Russell has consulted for the Office of Personnel Management in Washington DC and other cities nation wide. He has also consulted for various companies in the North Texas area as well as Tier Technologies in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Russell has served as a Regent with the AITP Foundation for Information Technology Education and as a Director for the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) Education Foundation. He has served as the 1998, 1999 and 2003 National AITP EDSIG President. This national educator organization manages the Information Systems Education Conference and publishes the Journal of Information Systems Education and the Information Systems Education Journal (ISEDJ).

Dr. Russell was the 2005 recipient of the Ben Bauman Award of Excellence at the 2005 International Association of Computer Information Systems (IACIS) in Atlanta. Russell’s CIS program at NSU was highlighted in the September issue of Business Week (2003) as an outstanding CIS program in the Southeast.
