Dr. Stuart A. Varden is Professor Emeritus of Information Systems at Pace University. His interests are in the areas of information systems curriculum development and trends, university-corporate programs, and online education. He has written actively in these areas over the past 25 years. Most recently he has developed and taught several Web-based online courses for both Pace University and Excelsior College. While at Pace he spent two years as a Visiting Professor at IBM Corporation. While at IBM, he served as an educational consultant and instructor.
Dr. Varden also serves as Chair of Information Technology Programs at Excelsior College in Albany, New York.
Prior to becoming a faculty member, he was over a period of 16 years a statistical computer programmer, research associate and data center manager at Columbus University, Teachers College in New York City.
He served as ISECON General Chairperson in 2000 and 2001 and was AITP/EDSIG President during 2004. He was a member of the EDSIG Board from 1998-2007. He is currently Secretary of the Foundation for Information Technology Education.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Columbus University in Mathematics (1968), his master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Computer Sciences (1971) and his doctorate from Columbia University, Teachers College in Educational Administration (1974).
