Doris Duncan is a Professor Emerita of Computer Information Systems and Accounting at California State University, East Bay (formerly Hayward). During her almost 40 years on the CSUEB faculty, Doris served as the Director of MBA Programs, CIS area coordinator, Telecommunications Management area coordinator, and graduate advisor for CIS and e-business programs. She also served on the academic senate, tenure, promotion, retention committees and as Chair of the Honorary Degrees Committee. Duncan was a Visiting Professor of Information Systems at the University of Washington, Seattle, 1997-98 and the Program Director of Information Systems at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, 1982-83. Her business experience in information technology includes communications consultant and marketing manager for AT&T, program director for Input, Inc., and member of the senior management consulting staff at Quantum Science Corporation in Palo Alto. She served on the boards of two technology startup companies and has had consulting engagements with several businesses, including Dialog Information Services, Pacific Bell Telephone Co., Valicert, Golden Gate University, Pearson Prentice Hall, McGraw-Hill Book Co. and Cengage Learning. Dr. Duncan authored a book, Computers and Remote Computing Services, and has published over 75 refereed journal articles and conference presentations, including 7 ISECONs. Duncan is past President and Association Director of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA), San Francisco Chapter, and has served on the Board of Directors of several professional societies, including the DPMA Special Interest Group in Education (EDSIG), and the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals Education Foundation. The DPMA is now known as the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). Duncan has served as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Informatics Education Research and on the editorial review board for the JIER, the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE), and the Journal of Information Technology Education (JITE) as well as a reviewer for many textbooks and conference proceedings.

Dr. Duncan was active in information systems curriculum development throughout her career. At CSUEB she was co-developer of the new Information Systems program, the new Telecommunications Management program, the new e-Business program and overhaul of the MBA. She served as a Course Team Expert and Reviewer for the DPMA/AITP four-year model Curriculum for Undergraduate Computer Information Systems Education for the 1981, 1986, 1990 and 1997 editions. She was also a reviewer for the DPMA/AITP 1990 edition of the Model Curriculum for Two-year Colleges. She was a member of the DPMA/AITP Graduate CIS curriculum committee 1986 – 88.

Dr. Duncan is recognized as an expert in CIS Education throughout the world and has been invited to present and publish papers on five continents. She was selected “Computer Educator of the Year” in 1997 by the International Association of Computer Information Systems and was twice selected to serve as a Fulbright Scholar/ Specialist, first in Uganda in 2009 and second in Tunisia in 2012. Duncan has received numerous research awards including Meritorious Paper at EDSIGCON in 2015, research award for her paper presented at IABPAD in 2015, and distinguished research award for her paper presented at Allied Academies in 1999.

Doris was recognized for meritorious service as faculty advisor for two years to the DPMA Student Chapter at California State University, East Bay. She has also earned numerous service awards through DPMA/AITP including the Triple Diamond, Double Diamond, Gold, Emerald, Silver and Bronze. She is listed in over 30 Who’s Who publications, including Who's Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.

Dr. Duncan received her BA and MBA degrees in business from the University of Washington and her PhD in business with an emphasis on information systems from Golden Gate University. She also holds four computer certifications: CCP, CDP, CSP, and CDE.
