About ISCAP-EDSIG Fellows
Each year Fellows are inducted in honor of their sustained, long-term, meaningful and effective support of ISCAP-EDSIG in its ongoing mission to improve IS Education, mentor IS students, and foster the careers of IS faculty.
D. Scott Hunsinger
D. Scott Hunsinger is Chair and Professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University (App State). He served as Managing Director of the Center for Analytics Research & Education before becoming chairperson of the CIS department. Previous to joining App State, Scott was Dean of Academic Affairs and Information Technology at NCCATT, an institution in the North Carolina Community College System. Scott previously taught in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte and has worked for Microsoft Corporation and SouthTrust Bank. Scott earned three degrees (Ph.D., MBA, and BSBA) from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also holds multiple Microsoft, Cisco, and CompTIA IT certifications.
At App State, Scott has developed and taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. Scott has won The University of North Carolina Board of Governors Teaching Award, which is the highest teaching award in the University of North Carolina system. He also received the Plemmons Leadership Medallion, the top leadership award at App State. Scott is an eleven-time recipient of the Most Memorable Professor Award at App State's Walker College of Business Honors Convocation and has received the college's top award for both teaching and service.
Scott has served since 2006 as faculty advisor of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) student organization at App State, which was rebranded as the Appalachian Information Technology Professionals (AppITP) student club several years ago. The club received over 40 national awards, including two-time National Chapter of the Year, multiple regional awards, and ten consecutive AITP Student Chapter Outstanding Performance Awards. Scott won the AITP National Faculty Advisor of the Year and "Going the Extra Mile" awards for his service to the club. He has also served since 2010 as the faculty advisor for the Alpha Iota Mu international honor society at App State.
Scott has published approximately 35 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters along with 30 peer-reviewed proceedings and given 35+ presentations at academic conferences. He has served as Associate Editor for three journals including ISEDJ and JISAR. In 2010, he became Senior Editor of JISAR. Scott served for several years as the CONISAR Papers Chair and has also participated as Assistant Papers Chair for ISECON, predecessor to EDSIGCON. Scott has won 3 distinguished/meritorious paper awards at EDSIGCON/ISECON.
Scott has participated on the Board of Directors for multiple organizations, including CompTIA, AITP, EDSIG, and ISCAP. From 2009 – 2018, he served in EDSIG leadership roles including President, Vice President, Membership Director, and Past President. During this time, he spent numerous hours collaborating with board members to come up with solutions for multiple challenging issues. Scott's leadership was instrumental in strengthening EDSIG, laying the foundation for the organization's independence as ISCAP-EDSIG. He has also served on the ISCAP Board as a Director and Vice President.
